Scenic Sunday Drives: Short on Length, Long on Leisure

Family summer vacation. European holiday and car travel concept

If you’re eager to hit the road again but want to hold off on a long trip that requires lots of advance planning, then scenic Sunday drives are the perfect in-between solution.

Check out these shorter stretches of road that offer all the amazing scenery without any of the commitment.

Just hop in and cruise for the day!

Around the Blue: Lake Tahoe
Distance: 72 miles roundtrip

Considered to be one of America’s most scenic drives, embark on a spectacular journey around one of the most beautiful natural wonders of the world.

The Route:

Starting in Tahoe City, take Hwy 28 in either direction and loop around as much of the lake as you like!

Along the Way:

Crystal Bay: Walk along the shoreline then cross from Nevada into California, or paddleboard or kayak among the enormous granite boulders sitting in the crystal-clear water.

Zephyr Cove: Check out one of its many beaches and nearby hiking trails. Dip your toes in the water or hike the Logan Shoals Vista Trail.

Emerald Bay State Park Overlook: This lookout is located at the southern tip of the lake and is home to Fannette Island, the only island in Lake Tahoe. Take the short hike down to Eagle Falls.

Incline Village: Browse the shops and refresh with a local craft beer at Alibi Brewery. The paved path from Tunnel Creek to Sand Harbor offers spectacular views of Lake Tahoe.

Picnic Spot:

Pull over for a picnic in Sand Harbor where you can set up a blanket right on the beach and enjoy up-close view of the lake set against the Sierra Nevada. Cool off with a dip while you’re there.

After all the fun out on the open road, circle back for a relaxing stay at Redwolf Lakeside Lodge, located in the heart of beautiful North Shore Lake Tahoe.
