North Lake Tahoe
Home to both Red Wolf Lakeside Lodge and Tahoe Sands Resort, North Lake Tahoe is a relatively calm and easy place to paddle. This is probably the best area to go for beginners or groups with small children, as there are numerous easy access points to the lake.

West Shore
Tahoe’s West Shore is known for its tall peaks, old forests, and great shoreline. It turns out that paddle boarding is actually one of the best ways to take in all the scenery the West Shore has to offer. For those looking to stay close to town look no further than Tahoe City. There are several great spots to launch, and all are great for beginners.
If you don’t mind a short drive, then heading South down State Route 28 is your best bet. Here you can access the large granite Rubicon cliffs, just a short paddle from DL Bliss State Park. If you’re up for a small hike, head to Emerald Bay where a 1 mile trail will take you to the shoreline of the world famous Emerald Bay State Park. There’s even an area to rent paddleboards on-site!

East Shore
The East Shore of Lake Tahoe is probably one of the most beautiful and stunning shorelines anywhere in the world. However, getting to this area with a paddleboard can be somewhat challenging. The easiest way to do it would be to head to Sand Harbor, just a quick 15 – 20 min drive from both the Red Wolf Lakeside Lodge and Tahoe Sands Resort.
Sand Harbor is known for its crystal clear water and long sandy beaches. This is a great spot for families with kids, first timers, or anyone who just wants to get out on the water for a few hours. For those looking to do a short paddle, the famous Thunderbird Lodge is just a short distance from Sand Harbor, and is easily reachable by paddleboard.

Truckee
Looking for something new? The town of Truckee is also a great place to get out on the water. A short drive from town, Donner Lake is probably the best known location and most scenic area to paddle. Nestled just below Donner Peak, this lake is surrounded by incredible views and large granite peaks.
For those looking to escape the crowds, Prosser Reservoir is also an excellent place to paddle. Relatively small and isolated, this lake has a 5 mph restriction on all boats, making the water excellent for paddleboarding.
